Rules and Regulations - Vauban University Library
These rules and regulations have been approved during a co-direction meeting, on February 1st 2022 and was updated on the 9th June 2023.
The main missions of the libraries of the Lille Catholic University are managing, promoting and sharing the print and digital collections, as well as training readers in information literacy skills and welcoming the public.
The current rules and regulations with regard to the borrowing conditions and the access to the electronic resources are common to the following librarie
- The central library, 60 Rue du Port in Lille
- The EDHEC Library, 24 Avenue Gustave Delory in Roubaix
- The Campus Humanicité Library, 2 Rue Théodore Monod in Lomme
The aspects pertaining to the building itself and the furniture apply only to the central library located Rue du Port in Lille. For the other branches, please refer to their own rules and regulations.
The current rules and regulations can be modified at all times, in order to comply with ministerial or governmental guidelines, as it was the case for example during the Covid 19 pandemic and the ensuing health crisis.
Access conditions
The libraries are open to all visitors. Students and staff at the University get access to all services, at no extra cost: print and digital items, borrowing, training sessions, inter-library loans. The student card granting access to the libraries is personal and cannot be lent to a third party.
External readers:
In order to access print items external readers need to pay a fee and register beforehand.
Are considered external readers individuals, students, teachers and researchers who are not affiliated to the Université Catholique de Lille or who are not part of the workforce anymore for the current year. Registration is possible for a day, a trimester or for a year and is only valid upon presentation of a valid ID card or a proof of enrollment for students (student card or certificate). Subscriptions are valid for exactly 12 months. The subscription only gives access to the library located at 60 rue du Port in Lille. Accessing the electronic resources is not authorized, since it requires an institutional email address.
Opening hours
The opening hours are on display in each library and on the library’s website (https://bibliotheque.univ-catholille.fr/default.aspx?_lg=en-US). The annual periods during which the libraries close and reduce their opening hours are communicated to the readers in due time.
Borrowing conditions
Students:
Borrow up to 8 items for 21 days (7 days for journals, DVD and comics, weekly and daily press), renewable twice.
Monthly journals can be borrowed for 7 days, without the possibility to renew the loan.
Readers can only borrow up to 3 comics for 7 days.
Teachers and staff:
Borrow up to 20 items for 28 days (14 days for journals, DVD and comics, weekly and daily press), renewable twice.
Monthly journals can be borrowed for 14 days, without the possibility to renew the loan.
Readers can only borrow up to 3 comics for 14 days.
External readers:
Borrow up to 8 items for 21 days (7 days for journals, DVD and comics), renewable twice.
Monthly journals can be borrowed for 7 days, without the possibility to renew the loan.
Readers can only borrow up to 3 comics for 7 days.
All items must be borrowed before passing through the anti-theft detection doors. Should the alarm ring, the reader must retrace their steps so that the librarians can identify the cause of the alarm. The student card or the membership card will consistently be requested. The librarians can also request that the reader show them the content of their bag.
Lost or deteriorated items
Readers are responsible for the items registered on their reader account. Should the reader lose or deteriorate an item, they commit to replace the item or to reimburse it. The front desk librarians will communicate reimbursement terms. Should a borrowed item be stolen while in the reader’s possession, the reader must report it as soon as possible to the library: upon presentation of proof that a complaint has been filed, the reader will not need to reimburse the item.
Accessing the electronic resources
Access to the electronic resources is reserved to students and staff from any institution affiliated to the Lille Catholic University. In order to access these resources, the reader must register beforehand on the library’s website (https://bibliotheque.univ-catholille.fr/default.aspx?_lg=en-US). The registration requires an institutional email address.
Accessing the resources is restricted to teaching and research purposes only and is subject to the current terms of use. Therefore, the reader’s attention is drawn in particular to the fact that no commercial, promotional or lucrative use of these resources is permitted. By registering on the website, the reader signs the E-resources terms of use and commits to respecting them.
Some subscriptions allow a limited number of simultaneous connections. Hence, we invite each reader to log out after using the electronic resources so that other readers may access the resources.
Terms of use for the computer equipment available at the library
The reader commits to not visit content which would disrupt the working conditions and wouldvresult in a complaint from other readers or the staff. Should such disruptions be ascertained, the library’s director or her representative would request that the culprit log out.
Accessing the heritage collection
Items from the heritage collection are available for free for researchers and students, upon reasoned request sent to bibliotheque.patrimoine@univ-catholille.fr. For preservation purposes, we ask our public to respect specific handling conditions: clean hands, drinks and food forbidden, use of pencil allowed for taking notes, proper use of reading supports.
Taking pictures without the flash is authorized, should the state of the item allow it.
Inter-library loan service (ILL)
The ILL service can provide readers with books or articles which are difficult to access and located in other libraries, French or foreign.
It is a free of charge service, which implies a reasonable use. Students can request up to 3 items simultaneously. Teachers can request up to 5 items simultaneously. External readers do not have access to the ILL service. For more information, contact us at peb@univ-catholille.fr.
Reproduction of documents
iThe Library provides self-service copiers/scanners/printers for the reproduction of extracts of documents, against payment, in accordance with the agreement signed by the institution with the Centre Français d’exploitation du droit de Copie (CFC). No document may be reproduced in its entirety. A maximum of 30% of a journal and 10% of a book is authorised. Library staff may prohibit the reproduction of large or fragile documents for conservation reasons. The paper in the copiers may only be used for the reproduction of documents and under no circumstances may it be used as scrap paper.
Rights and duties of users
Library staff are available to welcome and inform users. All registered users have access to the various free or paying services offered by the libraries according to their status. All users have the right to make observations, suggestions or complaints, either individually or in the context of surveys. Social relations within the libraries are based on mutual respect. Users are therefore expected to behave correctly and in conformity with group life standards. Each user agrees to :
- Be courteous to other users and to the library staff.
- Respect silence and calm, including in circulation areas (corridors, halls, stairways, lifts, etc.).
Outloud discussions are permitted in group work rooms only.
- Put their phone in silence mode, not use noisy devices
- Make calls outside the library
- Never use rollerblades or other mobility devices.
- Never bring animals into the library - with the exception of dogs accompanying people with disabilities.
- Never eat inside the library. Only drinks in a closed container are allowed (no open cups).
- Never smoke or vape inside the library.
- Never take up a chair by leaving their personal belongings unattended for more than 15 minutes.
- Comply with the instructions given by the staff.
The documents, furniture and premises are part of the common property made available tousers. Everyone agrees to :
- Never highlight, annotate or damage documents, whether on loan or on site.
- Report any damaged book to the library staff (especially before borrowing it) and to never
make any repairs themself.
- Never move furniture and to put the chairs back in place after use. Do not damage the furniture (do not write, incise, or use stickers, etc.). Under no circumstances should the emergency exits and lifts be obstructed by any object whatsoever.
- Do not force your way through the turnstiles. In the event of a malfunction, contact the staff at the reception desk.
- Use the bins provided and make sure to leave your seat clean.
- Do not display (including on the outside) or distribute documents inside the libraries without asking the library staff for permission.
Any item found by a staff member or left at the reception desk by a user will be reported to its owner by email or by telephone if the owner can be identified. Lost and found items are kept for three months. After this period, the objects may be thrown away.
Personal belongings of users
All persons coming to the library are responsible for their personal belongings and must not leave them unattended under any circumstances. No object (suitcase, means of transport, bag, computer equipment, etc.) may be left at the library reception desk. In case of theft, the library cannot be held responsible.
Safety instructions
The library is responsible for the safety of the public. If the alarm goes off, in case of emergency, the public must follow the instructions given by the staff. In the event of a fire alarm and evacuation, the elevators must not be used.
Enforcement and punishment
Library staff are responsible for enforcing these rules.
All users of the university libraries are subject to these rules and regulations and agree to respect them. If any problem were to occur, the staff may require the presentation of a student card. Disregarding any disciplinary sanctions that may be applicable, failure to comply with these rules may result in a ban on access to the premises or the use of services.
Access to the libraries may be denied to any person who, by their behavior, causes a nuisance to the public or to staff. Staff may also require the immediate departure of any user who refuses to comply with the provisions of these rules and regulations and may ask the university security to intervene if necessary.
